My Personal Journey…
Ever since I was a little girl, I knew my purpose was to uluminate – to create the space for others to shine. I went to college thinking I’d walk away becoming a teacher and yet switched to psychology so I could dive-in even deeper. After graduating I ended up in the business world, thinking it’d be a short stay before going back to graduate school. And yet, the Universe had other plans for me as I ended up staying for 14 years. During those years I honed my leadership skills, built my business acumen and climbed the corporate ladder. My ladder literally began on the bottom rung answering the phones. Who knew then that was only the beginning of me wearing a headset and talking on the phone for hours a day…
After answering the phones for a few months, I was promoted to Human Resources where I spent the next 14 years climbing that ladder to become the first female Vice President as well as being the first woman to join the all-male Senior Executive Team. By all accounts I had “made it” and had reached a pinnacle of success that I could never have dared to even imagine.
And then my Soul started whispering… Something wasn’t right, something was out of alignment and it scared the hell out of me. I was supposed to be happy, I was supposed to be content with what was, I had worked so hard to get to that top rung. How dare I think about doing anything else. Or becoming anyone else.
But as with any Souls Journey, you always end up at that symbolic fork in the road - the point of choice. Would I choose the practical and predictable path or would I follow the inklings of my heart? I battled with that choice for several years before trusting my inner knowing and embarking upon the more mystical, magical and miraculous path that has led me ever since.
After leaving corporate, I started Ulumination and have never looked back… except to be in gratitude for the experiences that prepared me so perfectly for what I now do. I have woven my past interests and experiences of teaching, psychology, business and leadership and integrated them into the work I now love. That’s the thing about purpose… it’s been with us since the day we were born because it IS the reason we were born. It may take on many different forms, but the essence never changes.
I live in beautiful Bend Oregon. This was another heart whispering moment. I had lived in Portland my entire life and yet, it no longer felt right. My soul needed more blue sky, sunshine and light and we wanted an outdoor wonderland to raise our son. Once we arrived in Bend, we knew it was home.
When I’m not doing the work I love, you’ll find me practicing yoga, hiking, running, skiing or traveling the world. I love being a mom to my incredible son and watching him follow his passions of football, track and skiing. He has been my greatest teacher and I'm blessed to be his mom. And with the gift of alone time, you’ll find me reading a fabulous book or sitting in the sunshine sipping my favorite cocktail and being in gratitude for all that is. Life really can be amazing when we honor our inner knowing, listen to the voice of our soul and follow it into the unknown to find exactly where we are meant to be.
